Between 20-29 April 2022 was held the first Israeli medical mission at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in cooperation with Dr. Rogers, Head of the Orthopaedics Department and Dr. Mandari.

This medical mission has been possible thanks to HelpApp Organisation which, for the first time led such a project, fundraised, and structured it together with Dr. Lee Yaari - Head of mission and the Israeli medical team which accompanied him, comprised of Professor Meir Nyska, Dr. Eyal Yaacobi, Nurse Malka Stein.

During their Mission at KCMC were presented on a daily base two educational lectures in Ortho subspecialties, was also practiced exchanges of knowledges through morning meetings, were seen patients in clinic (tens of patients), some operated on, mentoring of residents in clinic and conducting surgeries in the operating theatre.

The activity was focused on providing KCMC grand rounds on THR and Direct Anterior Approach for Femoral Neck Fractures (Dr. Yaacobi), instructing nurses at ER, ICU and Delivery (Nurse Malka Stein), organizing a visit of Israeli Anesthesiologist (Dr. Ilay) for future collaboration, scheduling a visit at Dermatology clinic, and performing medical clown activity at KCMC (Meir Cohen).

Lectures were given on several thematic:

Physical Exam of the Shoulder, ACL Reconstruction, Shoulder and Knee MRI imaging interpretation, Rotator Cuff Tears and Shoulder Arthroscopy, Principles of Relative and Absolute Stability.

Developing a wide spectrum in the specialty:

Primary and Secondary Healing, Case Discussion - Open Tibia Fracture, why is There Pain after Ankle Sprain, Ankle Fractures- The Role of the Fibula, Surgical Approach to Lisfranc Injuries.

In the operation theatre were performed a distal femur intramedullary nail, an open ankle reduction, a deltoid reconstruction, a syndesmotic screws placement and an IM nail of ipsilateral open femur, a forearm hardware removal - plate and pin, a macrodactyly foot ray amputation and a chronic knee dislocation arthrolysis, reduction and arthrodesis.

But also, and it is highly remarkable since it was the first time at KCMC:

- An ACL reconstruction and arthroscopic posterior horn medial meniscus all inside repair.

- An ACL reconstruction and arthroscopic partial medial meniscectomy.

This experience was a vibrant and extensive success as a fully cooperative job turned out to be between the Israeli and the local medical staff. They worked together side by side providing every patient with the most advanced and adapted treatment.

The Tanzanian embassy’ staff and its Ambassador Alex Gabriel Kallua, aware of the greatness and the involvements related to the project, joined their efforts to facilitate the realization and the success of the mission.

They all wish to heartily thank HelpApp organization for their initiative, the doctors and nurse who involved themselves in this medical expedition for all the concern, the knowledges, the skills, and the time they have given.

There are not enough words to express our appreciation. May God bless you all.
